Product Description

Description

Unived’s ALA capsules are formulated with a research-based effective dosage of ALA which unveils its maximum antioxidant potential. Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a short chain fatty acid naturally present in the body which majorly acts as an antioxidant and serves in vital bodily functions. ALA is also associated with several health benefits including cardiovascular health, liver health, memory, and cognitive function. Studies also reveal its important role in energy metabolism and its efficiency in converting glucose to energy using oxygen also known as aerobic metabolism.

Along with this, it also regulates blood glucose levels and is shown to reduce insulin resistance. It contributes towards maintaining a healthy lipid profile as well as possesses hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory properties.

Mode of Action

Antioxidant activity

  • The antioxidant activity of ALA is attributed to promoting weight loss and blood pressure control and ameliorating atherogenic dyslipidemia and insulin resistance. (1)
  • In a comparative study between ALA and Vitamin E, the antioxidant potential of ALA was observed to be more powerful. (3)
  • ALA has the ability to effectively regenerate antioxidants like glutathione, CoQ10, vitamin C as well as vitamin E. (4)

ALA in Liver Health

  • Injured liver cells produce inflammatory mediators like nitric oxide and TNF-alpha. Alpha-Lipoic Acid has been shown to significantly inhibit the production of nitric oxide and TNF-alpha, thus, exhibiting its anti-inflammatory action. (2)
  • In a study on patients with Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFD) and Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) administration of ALA reduced the levels of serum HOMA- IR, Retinol-binding protein (RBP-4) and increases the levels of Adiponectin- fat derived hormone responsible for regulating insulin resistance and diabetes. It also improves and regulates the levels of triglycerides. (3)

ALA in insulin resistance

  • In patients with NAFD, insulin resistance is associated with impaired hepatic cell damage, intrahepatic cholestasis, atherogenic dyslipidaemia and fibrosis. Daily treatment with ALA in patients with NAFD significantly improved insulin sensitivity by decreasing insulin resistance as well as oxidative stress. (2)
  • Various studies also show ALA to reverse insulin resistance and improve insulin sensitivity.
