How our Rest and Recover Protein works?

Organic Pea Protein Isolate: Our muscles repair themselves and grow while we sleep. Growth hormone which boosts muscle growth is elevated during this time. Studies have shown that consuming an ample amount of protein right before bed, will provide the amino acids that are needed for repair and growth. This will help the body take full advantage of the spike in growth hormone and maximize muscle gains.

The Digestive Enzyme Blend and Probiotic Unique IS 2 (Bacillus Coagulans) together helps in building a healthy gut environment for better breakdown and absorption of the protein and other nutrients.

Calcium – We use Plant-sourced calcium derived from Algas calcareas, also contains magnesium and 73 trace minerals. Algae Calcium is more effective calcium and is more bio-available, the body is able to utilize over 80% of the mineral as compared with extremely low utilization (less than 10%) in case of synthetic minerals. Helps in production of melatonin, stabilizes muscle contraction, blood pressure, heart beat and supports nervous system functions.

KSM-66® Organic Ashwagandha Root Extract Our vegan organic KSM-66 Ashwagandha is a root-only extract standardized to 5% withanolides by HPLC, which skips the milk pre-treatment and is the highest pure withanolide concentration available. KSM-66 Ashwagandha is proven to promote endurance, strength, muscle size and optimize the muscle recovery rate and cortisol levels. it reduces stress and induces calmness. It proves a great tool for athletes of all levels, across all sports, notably improving fitness and reducing fatigue.

Curcumin: It is standardized to 95% curcuminoids, the use of curcumin reduces the intensity of muscle pain; reduces muscle damage through the decrease of creatine kinase (CK); increases muscle performance; has an anti-inflammatory effect by modulating the pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8; and may have a slight antioxidant effect.

L-theanine: It is extracted from Green Tea Extract. The biggest benefit of L-Theanine is it promotes relaxation without sedation. It can also reduce perceptions of stress and improve cognition. Because of these properties, L-Theanine is an excellent supplement to take before bed to help you “wind down”.

Protein

Organic Pea Protein Isolate

Peas are a remarkable source of plant-based protein and amino acids. Protein from pea satisfies all essential amino acids requirements, necessary for building and maintaining lean muscle. Pea protein has high PDCAAS score of 0.93 – which is equivalent to the PDCAAS score of sources of meat, eggs, and soy, and common vegetables found like spinach and broccoli.

Unived’s Rest & Recover delivers high quality pea protein isolate that is equivalent in nutritional quality to traditional animal-based supplements, along with the superior digestibility of plant-based protein.

PROBIOTIC

Unique IS2 (B. coagulans), earlier known as Lactobacillus sporogenes and broadly termed as Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB), is a gram positive, spore forming bacterium. It is non-pathogenic and safe for human consumption with self-affirmed GRAS. Being naturally encapsulated, it is a very tough and stable probiotic

  • Helps produce L- lactic acid
  • Helps maintain a healthy digestive system
  • Helps maintain lipid profile
  • Helps support a healthy immune system

DIGESTIVE ENZYME

Protease: breaks down proteins & peptides and supports immune functions

  • Bacterial Acid Protease: Resembles pepsin. Its site of action is Stomach. Gastrin stimulates parietal cells to secrete HCL. This HCL makes the stomach conditions acidic thus allowing pepsin to act.
  • Bacterial Alkaline Protease: Alkaline protease is serine endopeptidase. It is involved in the hydrolysing of peptide bonds. Its site of action is small intestine.
  • Bacterial Neutral protease: Neutral protease is an extremely stable & it closely resembles trypsin. It site of action is small intestine. It breaks down protein molecules in small polypeptides.
  • Papain: Papain is a plant protease enzyme which is isolated from papaya latex. Papain shows extensive proteolytic activity towards proteins, short chain peptides, amino acid esters and amide links. It preferentially cleaves peptide bonds involving basic amino acids, particularly arginine, lysine and residues following phenylalanine.

Alpha – amylase: Amylase aids in the breakdown of carbohydrates by breaking the bonds between sugar molecules in polysaccharides through a hydrolysis reaction.

Pea protein is a glycoprotein. Glycoproteins are proteins where the protein molecule is bound to sugar molecules, which means it is difficult to break down with protease enzymes alone. Instead, they must be treated additionally with amylases to break down the carbohydrates

Calcium:

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body. It’s also important to bear in mind that calcium is one of the minerals lost in sweat. This can contribute to reduced bone density. In longer term signs of calcium deficiency include heart palpitations, raised blood pressure, joint aches, tooth decay and brittle nails. The body attempts to restore calcium levels by “raiding” calcium stores in bone, rending the bones weaker.

  • Calcium helps the brain use the amino acid tryptophan to manufacture the sleep-inducing substance melatonin.
  • Not only is calcium essential for the health of your bones and teeth, but it plays important roles in muscle contraction, nervous system function, stabilization of blood pressure, blood clotting and secretion of hormones.
  • It also contributes to normal brain function and helps maintain a regular heartbeat.

KSM-66:

KSM-66 is manufactured using a Green Chemistry water-based extraction process, without alcohol or chemical solvents. It has the most extensive set of research studies and clinical trials. KSM-66 has 30 Quality Certifications including the 100% Organic Certified by USDA and EU

It supports a reduction in stress and anxiety, enhances focus, supports immune functions, and aids sleep and relaxation.

  • Serum cortisol levels: a statistically significant (p<0.05) decrease of 22.2% was observed in serum cortisol levels as a result of KSM-66 supplementation, significant when compared to the placebo[ii],[iii].
  • Ashwagandha is seen as a GABA-mimetic that reduces over-excitation of neurons, thereby producing calmness, reducing stress and increasing focus, mental well-being and self-control[ii],[iii]
  • Treatment with Ashwagandha can be helpful in limiting stress-associated weight gain in humans[ii],[iii].

Curcumin:

Curcumin supplementation could be beneficial for attenuating Exercise-Induced Muscle Damage (EIMD) given that curcumin has been shown to potentially help alleviate exercise performance decrements following intense and challenging exercise, as a result of membrane protective effects, antioxidants response, and anti-inflammatory action[iv]. Attenuating DOMS after exercise is important for recovery, as it allows the individual to quickly move on to the next exercise with maintained or improved intensity; thus, increasing the likelihood of achieving the performance target.

  • The administration of curcumin up until 72h post-exercise, improved performance by reducing Exercise-Induced Muscle Damage and modulating the inflammation caused by physical activity[iv].
  • The anti-inflammatory properties attributed to curcumin are due to its ability to inhibit the nuclear factor kappa (NF-κB), which may be a muscle protective and regeneration agent and plays an important role in controlling physiological mechanisms of inflammation and protein breakdown[iv].
  • Curcumin is capable of blocking the activation of TNF-α-dependent NF-κB and the activation pathway induced by ROS[iv].
  • Curcumin could have a low regulatory effect on the expression of the COX-2 enzyme and inhibit pro-inflammatory enzyme 5-LOX (lipoxygenase-5) expression in the leukotriene-producing metabolic pathway[iv].
  • Curcumin controls the response to thermal shock for attenuated muscle damage and biomarkers of muscle damage, such as CK[iv].

L-theanine:

It is a unique non-proteinic amino acid that has been reported with predominant therapeutic values present almost exclusively in the tea plant (Camellia sinensis). L-theanine is thought to affect both the levels and functions of neurotransmitters in the brain. For example, L-theanine injection has been shown to raise levels of glycine, an amino acid and inhibitory neurotransmitter which helps calm one down. It raises brain levels of serotonin and GABA, two other inhibitory neurotransmitters. Finally, L-theanine may block L-glutamic acid from binding to the excitatory glutamate receptors in cortical neurons (nerve cells in the cerebral cortex).

  • The relaxing effects of tea consumption have been known for decades; the active constituent of tea, called L-theanine (gamma glutamylethylamide) has modulatory effects on the brain state[v].
  • It has been shown to regulate oscillatory brain activities in humans with an ability to pass through the blood–brain barrier during cognitive task execution and electroencephalographic (EEG) transcriptions and is believed to cause a relaxation effect[v].
  • L-theanine has been proposed as a neuroprotective and cognitive-enhancing agent[vi].
  • Peripherally and centrally administered L-theanine has been reported to act on the brain, to modulate monoamine levels in the central nervous system, and glutamate and glycine neurotransmissions8.
  • In the brain L-theanine increases dopamine and serotonin production[vii].
  • Regardless of the mechanism, theanine increases alpha-brain wave activity, a sign of induced relaxation[vii].
